One of the reasons that I have been reaching up regularly for volumes of the Folk Music Journal and its predecessors from my shelves is that I have been giving a little help to John Francis of Albion Records, who is currently working on a new set of four CDs which will contain between them performances of all 80 of the arrangements of folk songs made by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Not everyone is a fan of the way folk songs are treated by classical composers, or by the singers who perform them, but here we are looking at the songs through the mind of the man who collected several of them and was intimately involved in the folk song movement of his day.
